About me

An actor/teacher before turning to arts development I spent 18 years with Southern Arts Board, initially as Theatre Officer then Deputy Chief Executive responsible for the development and implementation of National Lottery-funded grants programmes.

I established Awards for All as a long-term community grants programme for the National Lottery Community Fund before joining the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF, now National Lottery Heritage Fund) as Deputy Director of Operations.

During 10 years at the Fund I led, managed and developed regional teams responsible for assessing and monitoring grants worth approximately £100million p.a., and managed partnerships with the Countryside Agency, English Heritage, National Youth Agency and others.

I trained in cultural leadership with the Management Centre; Hubert Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, Minnesota; National School of Government, and Roffey Park Institute.

Since 2010 I’ve worked as an independent arts and heritage consultant with clients including arts organisations, museums, campaign groups, the National Trust and local councils.

I have extensive experience as a trustee/chair of cultural organisations including Artswork, ArtSway, Arts Research Ltd  and SPUD. I was chair of Nuffield Theatre Southampton (2005-11); Creative Partnerships, Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire & IoW, (2004-2011), Culture Southampton (2011-14), and interim chair of Making Space (2014-15). I also chaired the heritage learning panel of the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth.

I currently sit on the National Lottery Heritage Fund area committee for England: London & South and chair the strategic advisory board of South West Museum Development.
